International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) (Grades 11-12)
The International Baccalaureate (IB) founded in1968 has been built with a mission to creating a better world through education.
The IB programmes focus on fostering critical thinking and building problem-solving skills, while encouraging diversity, international mindedness, curiosity, and a healthy appetite for learning and excellence.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP/DP) was thus established to provide students with a balanced education, facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding.
The programme aims to develop students of the age group 16-19 withan excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students can flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically as a result of the high quality and challenging IBDP programme.
The curriculum is designed to develop a deeper understanding of the structure of knowledge, concepts and how content connects across disciplines.
The DP Programme consist of both traditional academic subjects and a CORE which makes it a unique curriculum.
The DP CORE:
Through the DP Core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service. It consists of:
The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) a course that requires students to reflect on the question, “How do we know what we know?” By the end of the programme students will be proficient at analyzing knowledge claims and formulating arguments. They will be writing a 1,600-word essay and will have presented an exhibition based on prompts provided by IB.
The Extended Essay (EE) is a 4,000-word essay on a self-directed research project. Students have the freedom to choose a topic that interests them, provided it is related to one of the six core subject areas.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is the third essential element of the Core that every student must complete as part of the Diploma Programme. CAS requires students to be involved in a range of activities including service besides their academic studies. Although it is not formally assessed, students need to provide evidence of achieving the seven learning outcomes enlistedfor CAS.
